Cork Gems: Our Members' Favourite Spots and Hidden Treasures
Welcome to our newest blog, where we’ve reached out to our community, and asked them to share their cherished spots for the perfect pint, a delightful cup of coffee, a memorable dining experience, and the tastiest pizza in town. After all, once a long day of coworking is complete, who doesn't want a sneaky pint or nice slice of pizza? We still have some summer left - so this will help you make the most of it.
Our marketing executive Colin O’Brien sat down with Andrew Scannell, Aisling McCarthy, Kevin O’Brien and Lorraine Lucid to find out their go to spots. In this blog, you’ll find out their top recommendations, which could lead to you unlocking the hidden treasures that make our town an irresistible destination for food and beverage enthusiasts. So, let's dive right in!
1. The Perfect Pint:
When it comes to finding the perfect pint, our members have spoken out and given us a few places to choose from and the reason why they chose said pub.. The two classics that stick out are, The Long Valley, because of it simply being a pub. Nothing more, nothing less, but at the same time having an amazing selection of beverages to choose from. Another classic recommendation was The Castle Inn, a pub that looks like it should be in the countryside but is thriving in the city centre, known for its high quality Guinness and Beamish. Other recommendations if you’re looking for a pint of Guinness would be Mutton Lane or The Shelbourne. If you’re looking somewhere that is outside the city, then it would have to be O’Sullivans Bar down in Crookhaven. This place not only offers you breathtaking views, you’ll also get excellent service whilst having a pint in the most southerly bar in Ireland.
2. Delightful Coffee:
There's one thing in Cork that we are not short of, and that’s high quality coffee. Meaning this was a question that was actually answered quickly and with huge opinion! Firstly, we have Crush Coffee which is based down in Little Island. This place provides you with extremely high quality coffee, served by the friendliest of staff. You go down for a coffee and end up chatting and it feels like you’ve known the two lads all your life. The next 4 answers are all based in the city, they are Soma, Three Fools, Bookshelf and Mahers in the English market. These spots are never empty which is a testament to how good the coffee is but also to the quality of the staff. Finally, we have Cortado which is based down along the marina walk which is one of the busiest places in Cork. They always seem to have people waiting in line for their coffee, which is always a good sign.
3. Memorable Dining Experience:
Cork has a fantastic array of restaurants to choose from. The first one is Strasbourg Goose, based on French church street. Once you arrive, you feel immediately relaxed because of how attentive and friendly the staff is, plus the food is absolutely delicious. Other strong contenders are the Cornstore, Spitjack, Jacobs on the Mall and Market Lane. All of these restaurants have a similar trend, that the food is mouthwatering and all staff members are very friendly and accommodating. They have a wide variety of meals and also have a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. The final place is in the very popular seaside town of ‘Kinsale’ and the restaurant is The Black Pig. This restaurant is one that is always busy but the staff always make sure that you are looked after. The choice of food is very unique but also very tasty, meaning that you’ll be scheduling your return visit the moment you leave the restaurant.
4. Tastiest Pizza in Town:
In Cork there is always a new pizza joint opening, which means competition is high when it comes to slinging dough.A few mentions for pizza in the city are Oak Fire Pizza (also based in Douglas and Clonakilty), Fran Well and Frankies. Fran Well and Oak Fire are both restaurants where you can sit down and enjoy a lovely pizza served by their lovely staff. Frankies is a slice shop that is located at the bottom of the Grand Parade, the slices are exquisite and the topping combinations are absolutely out of this world. If you’re looking for a pizza by the slice place to go to after a night out then it would 100% be Fast Als. Once the bars clear you’ll find most people tucking into a slice and listening to buskers perform outside the restaurant. Two people have recommended a hidden gem pizzeria, which is Palmento in Douglas.A special shout out to the parmesan fries on offer here too. One last mention, La Jolie Brise in Baltimore, this pizzeria is superb. The views alone make it worth your while getting out there.
