Questions you might have about a Coworking Space

Never stepped foot inside a coworking space before? Not to worry—we've got you covered in this blog. We’ll go through some of your burning questions about this crazy world.

Many questions we receive are to do with location, size, capacity, and pricing, you’ll find these answers on our website. However, people have many more niche questions and are sometimes hesitant to ask. So, here are some relevant ones we think we’d like to answer.

  1. Does it get distracting working amongst others?

Now, this is going to vary from person to person, but if you are already exploring coworking options, you're probably someone who wants a bit of background noise. Overall, it's very easy to do good, focused work in a coworking space. There will be areas in the building that are designated quiet zones, as well as private phone booths and meeting rooms where you will find that peace your heart desires. When working in a communal area, there will be some chatter in the background and various other noises, but it will never get to the level that it's highly distracting. And if you do come across that person who is talking a tad bit too loud about their personal problems, just reach out to one of the team’s personnel who will know how to handle such a situation. They’ve seen it all, take it from us!

  2. Will it be awkward if I don't know anyone there?

We believe that the vast majority of people who use coworking spaces do so alone. There is absolutely nothing to worry about if you don't know anyone in advance. For some people, this can seem a bit daunting, but in a shared space like this, everyone is really open, friendly and welcoming. For example in Republic of Work, you get a full in-depth tour of the place before making any commitment - and once you do commit, you’ll be added into all our community spaces to quickly get to know one another. It’s a great way to meet new people and if you are on the shy side, you can still keep to yourself and no one will bat an eyelid.

  3. Is it a big commitment?

Another plus of a coworking space is that most are very non-commital and flexible. Think monthly rolling contracts like here in Republic of Work - or even pay-as-you-go options. Coworking spaces usually have more than one location, which means you’ll have the flexibility to hop from spot to spot. So whether you want to sign up for one day, week, or event year, there is always going to be an option that suits you.

  4. Is it an inclusive environment?

We're going to go with Yes. We can’t speak for every space in the world obviously, but what we’ve noticed from the people who have come through our doors, is that they come from everywhere. At any one time, we will have many nationalities in the room, all brought together by the love of being in a flexible working environment. Oftentimes people are only briefly stopping over on a work trip or testing out a new city they are thinking of moving to. It’s a great way to cross paths with someone you might not have in your usual day-to-day life. Not to mention all of the interesting things these people are working on, whether it's a new emerging technology or attempting to solve some of our world's problems. In a coworking space, you have to be welcoming to everyone, no matter what their background or beliefs.

  5. Where can I sign up for a coworking space?

Okay, we've put this question in here a little cheekily - but c’mon we had to. Of course, we always recommend stopping by Republic of Work and checking out the space; we have a Cork location as well as a Clonmel location. But if you're reading this somewhere else in this beautiful world, simply google your nearest ‘coworking space’ and explore. The coworking world really is your oyster. When choosing a coworking space, look for good reviews, a good location, and a good reputation.
