How to get the most out of a Coworking Space

Happy 2023 readers - it has to be said as this is our first blog this side of January. Many of you may have made some new promises this year. You might’ve even made the (smart) decision to try coworking! So, we want to help you thrive in your new space. Or, entice you to go and try out your nearest location if you haven't already. Here we’ll share some of our insights on how to make the most out of a Coworking Space, whether you want to go full-time, part-time, or even just once or twice a month, here is the advice to help you get the most out of your new routine.

Cost savings and flexibility.

If you’re someone who usually works from home, you’ll have probably noticed the sharp uptick in the cost of household bills. Heating, lights, and using the dishwasher can all really add up. The good news is, by joining a coworking space you can use all the energy you may need. Of course, it may only be a small difference but it all counts. Also, with the flexible options on offer in coworking spaces like Republic of Work and others, you only ever pay for what you need. Whether that’s a day pass, a 1-month membership, or even something much longer term.

Make new connections and friends.

From speaking to our own members, one of the biggest attractions of a coworking space is the people you meet along the way. First of all, for business, meeting the right people is key. Being in a shared workspace allows you instant access to smart humans who are working on a whole range of different things. Got a problem with your website? No worries - Steve, who is always sitting on the sofa on the 1st floor, is an expert in web design, he can give you some tips. This scenario can happen ten times over with various services.

On a more personal note, it’s the perfect way to meet new people and to increase your friendship circle too. Meeting friends as you get older can be hard, but if you’re hanging around in the same building a few days a week, it makes the process of meeting new people a lot easier and less awkward.

Get some structure in your day.

If you’re switching from working from home, or in random coffee shops, transitioning to a coworking space will do wonders for putting more structure in your day. Who doesn’t love a bit of structure, right? You can plan when to leave the house, how long you’ll be there, and when you want to leave. None of this logging on from bed, or bringing the laptop to the sitting room for a bit of late-night work. Clocking in and out of the workspace will hopefully mean you won’t burn yourself out working overtime. On the flip side, it could help with procrastination too as you don’t want to be that person just aimlessly hanging about all day.

Learn a thing or two.

Like in many coworking spaces across the world, here in Republic of Work we run a whole range of events. These events range from casual Lunch & Learns, to specific hackathons, masterclasses, weekend ideation sprints and much more. When you become a member, you get inside access to all of the different goings on. It’s a perfect way to upskill and expand your knowledge on topics that you are passionate about, and also topics that you may never have heard of before. By learning from people who have ‘been there and done that’, you can then apply any learnings to your business and personal life, knowing that it’s come from a reliable source.

The greatest thing about coworking spaces is that you really do get out of them what you put in. If it’s somewhere where you want to spend all your free time - do that. If it’s somewhere where you only want to dip in and out of, you do you. Republic of Work will be turning six this year, and over that space of time, we’ve seen so many different types of people benefit from using our coworking space (and others we’re sure) along the way. If it’s something that might interest you, reach out to us at your leisure. We’re really friendly and are always looking for new faces! You can book a tour here. We now have two locations in Cork CIty and Clonmel town.

All the best,

Team RoW.
