Quick-Fire Interviews with the Women of Republic of Work #IWD
Tuesday the 8th of March will mark International Women's Day for 2022. We all know, love, or are women, so we know how important marking this day has become. The theme this year is ‘#BreakTheBias’. An excerpt from the IWD website reads:
“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”
To add our small part to the day, we held some quick-fire interviews with a few of the women we have working here within our community. Here’s what the amazing women of ROW had to say:
Diane Higgins - Creative Designer, Diane Higgins Design
Q: What motivates you to do your work everyday?
A: Being involved with start-ups and helping them to set the seeds of their brands.
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: Believe in yourself and believe in others too. Be nice, work hard and you never know where opportunities lie.
Q: How do you unplug once work is over for the day?
A: Haha! That would be nice. I have 3 small children and we love to hang out in Fitzgerald’s Park on the weekends.
Fiona Walsh - PowerPoint Specialist and Microsoft Master Trainer, Imagine Coaching
Q: What other women do you find inspiring in your space?
A: Being a scientist, I am inspired by Caroline O’Driscoll, the co-founder of I Wish, which aims to bring equality to the STEM workforce in Ireland.
Q: What motivates you to do your work everyday?
A: I love collaborating with people, getting to know them, and connecting on a personal level. That really motivates me.
Q: How do you unplug once work is over for the day?
A: I go for a swim (in the pool) in winter, or a walk in the summer. I also love listening to music, I never watch TV!
Katie Maher Barry - Co-owner, Urban Design
Q: How do you unplug once work is over for the day?
A: I love the gym, cooking, painting, spending time with my kids and dogs, and as a family we all love to travel.
Q: What motivates you to do your work everyday?
A: In my late 20’s I was diagnosed with dyslexia, so now I appreciate the unique way my brain works. I don’t think I'll ever run out of creative ideas. Getting to work with amazing people and make friends along the way. My creativity and love for people motivates me the most.
Q: What other women do you find inspiring in your space?
A: Every woman inspires me because behind every set of lashes, we can all be a little broken inside. I respect every woman that gets up in the morning and has the ability to show kindness and compassion to others even though they might not be feeling up to it.
