Re-Establishing Your Career Post-COVID
Have you found yourself feeling directionless while suffering the impact of COVID-19? Maybe you’ve been put out of work and you’re trying to find your feet again. You’re unsure what path you want to take but you’re trying to seize this opportunity to be sure about the decisions you make and align them with what you really want. This is a difficult position to be in, thankfully Mary Spillane of Rise to Success Coaching had some useful advice for situations like these when she hosted a Lunch & Learn.
‘What would you do if money wasn’t an issue?’ is the question Mary poses to her coaching clients. The answer to this question should play a big factor in how you decide to proceed with your career. Your values & mission should be similar to that of the company you decide to work for too as this will help you sustain a happy lifestyle.
Once you know what you want, use these tips to give yourself the best chance when applying for your dream job:
4 tips to get your CV noticed
Tailor your CV to every single job you apply for and avoid a ‘mass application,’ situation so you can follow up.
Use similar words to the job description in the CV and Cover Letter. When recruiters look through a large volume of resumes, these are what they are looking for.
It only takes 6 seconds to engage your reader, make sure you get right to the point on both your CV and Cover Letter. The most important questions to answer are; you can do the job, you will do the job and why you want to do the job.
Always have a neat, easy to read and navigate document no longer than 2 pages. Work history should be in reverse chronological order and explain any gaps in your employment history. Keep the dates to one side, all in the same format.
