9 Types of People You’ll Find in a Coworking Space

People might be nervous or anxious before joining a coworking space. They mightn’t know who they’ll bump into once they enter through the doors, but when you arrive into Republic of Work you will be met by a fantastic team to make sure you’re comfortable and settling in nicely. There are some people who you will want to have in your corner immediately, so in this blog, we’ll be going over the various people you might meet in a coworking space.

The Freelancer:

Freelancers were originally the target market for when coworking spaces opened up. They saw the space as a place where they could meet clients in person rather than on Zoom calls and have an actual ‘office’, rather than working from various spots around their house or different cafes around town. Working from a cafe means spending heavily on coffee and food. Luckily in ROW, we have a state of the art Nespresso coffee machine that provides our members with as much free coffee as their heart desires. Not to mention our fabulous members' kitchen too!

The Small Business Owner:

Coworking spaces are a dream for small business owners. You get to have an office space where you can work as a team and communicate in person rather than waiting for a person to respond to a text message/email. The space allows business owners to expand at their own rate and not feel under pressure to fill office spaces quickly. They can do it in their own time, allowing them to focus on what is really important, doing business!

The Extroverts and Introverts:

These two people are very different. One will talk to anyone about whatever pops up in conversation. The other will be very quiet until they’re talking about something that you both enjoy. Extroverts can be very outgoing types that can make a conversation from the smallest thing. They can also be very confident, so if for some reason you are in a heated discussion with an extrovert they will make you think that they are always right. Introverts can be shy and reserved people who like to work away by themselves but will engage in conversation with you when you build a relationship with them.

Remote & Hybrid Workers:

Another target market for coworking spaces would be the remote/hybrid workers. These people are given the opportunity to work from home but prefer to work in an office space as they feel they’re more productive. Some companies have even taken notice of this trend and have started buying desk space for their employees within various coworking spaces. In Republic of Work we have a brilliant package available for the companies that are looking to get ahead of this trend.

The Caffeine-Dependents:

These people are all over the world, but in coworking spaces you think they’re only there for the free coffee and to clean the vending machine out of all the Red Bull and Monster. You rarely see these types of people at their desk or even using their laptop. You’ll find them at the coffee dock with a caffeinated beverage in their hand whether it be 8am or 8pm. They need caffeine all the time, so much so that it may not even affect their energy levels anymore.

The Start-Up:

You’ll find these people in every single coworking space you enter and it’s easy to tell who they are. They're the energetic entrepreneurs who will be wearing their t-shirt and jeans and will have their earphones in the whole time. They’ll always be on calls or trying to blur out the background noise whilst trying to bring the best idea to market. But a coworking space is the best place for them, as it is perfect for making connections that will benefit them and allow them to expand their team with like minded people.

The Multi-Tasker:

This is the type of person who is constantly on the go. You can find them either sitting at their desk or wandering around the building, but will never be idle. You could find them at their desk writing on a notepad, on a phone call, drinking a coffee AND typing on their laptop - all at the same time! You may think that their work might suffer, but don’t let that fool you. Their work usually comes out as top quality.

The Distracting Worker:

Every coworking space has this person. They're the type of people that just love chatting and gossiping. They should really be doing their own work, but if there are people around that’s more important than work. If nobody is around, they end up back to work - until the next person comes along. These people are very enjoyable to have around the space, especially if you’re going for a drink as the conversation never dries up.

The Lone Wolf:

On the other hand, you have the lone wolf. These people come into the space by themselves and it tends to stay that way. They like to have their headphones on, listening to a few tunes and keeping to themselves. They might have a chat here and there with people, but like to keep work and friends separate. Everyone can be nervous when interacting with new people, so just give the lone wolf some time and before you know it, you could be hanging out with each other!

These are just some of the people that you can find within a coworking space. We’d love to hear some of the people you’ve encountered. Let us know on our socials and tag @republicofwork.
